About Us

The Los Angeles Psychological Association (LACPA) represents over 4,000 licensed psychologists within Los Angeles County by responding to the mental health needs of the community.  Its purposes are to advance the science and profession of psychology and promote human welfare while educating the public about psychological issues.

  • Encourage participation of psychologists in the application of psychological knowledge for the betterment of the community
  • Provide opportunity for the exchange of ideas and information about members of the profession
  • Promote the improvement of qualifications of psychologists through high standards of educational achievement, professional ethics and conduct, and the application of research findings

 

Statement of Purpose of the
Los Angeles County Psychological Association

The Los Angeles Psychological Association (LACPA) represents the more than 4,570 licensed psychologists within Los Angeles County by responding to the mental health needs of the community. Its purposes are to advance the science and profession of psychology and promote human welfare while educating the public about psychological issues.

LACPA members have access to continuing education programs, consultation on legal, ethical, social, and economic issues related to the profession and various support services.

LACPA is responsive to the public by answering questions regarding psychology while also addressing the needs of member psychologists, associates, affiliates, and graduate students of psychology.

Founded in 1945 and incorporated in 1962, LACPA is a chapter of the California Psychological Association (CPA), a state association of the American Psychological Association (APA). The APA is the national psychological association with over 150,000 members in the United States and Canada. LACPA has adopted the ethical standards and guidelines for professional practice of the APA.
